Furano is a popular summer destination, offering a comfortable escape from the heat. From spring to summer, the area is adorned with beautiful flowers, providing a perfect backdrop for photographers, hikers, explorers, thrill-seekers. With excellent access to famous tourist spots, Furano is highly recommended for solo travelers.
In order to quickly find your bearings in Furano, we recommend that you start your journey with a scenic ride through the Furano area on the Biei Furano Norokko Line. During your excursion, take a moment to look out the window where you will see spectacular tree-covered mountain ranges, sprawling flower fields, and various local landmarks.
1. Farm Tomita
One of the most well-known tourist locations in Furano, Farm Tomita is located a short 10 minute walk from the nearest train station, making it easily accessible even without a car. At Farm Tomita, you’ll be greeted by Japan’s largest lavender field, where the vibrant colors and fragrant aroma create a truly unique experience. The soft serve ice cream made from lavender harvested here is a must-try. You can also purchase locally crafted products like soap, perfumes, and lotions to share your experience with your loved-ones back home.
2. Blue Pond
The Blue Pond is a famous natural attraction known for its mysterious blue, clear waters and fossilized white birch trees. The pond is easily accessible—just a short bus ride away from Biei Station. The pond’s appearance changes with the time of day and the light, offering a different spectacle each visit. For the most vivid blue, visit in the early afternoon.
3. Roller Coaster Road
Located in Kamifurano Town, Roller Coaster Road stretches for 2.5 kilometers and is the perfect spot for slow and leisurely car rides or slightly more challenging (but arguably more memorable) bicycle rides. Despite the steep inclines, locals recommend cycling slowly along the road and taking in the entire atmosphere. Offering views of the Tokachi mountain range and the countryside, it’s considered one of the “Eight Scenic Spots of Kamifurano.”
4. Furano Night Watching
From April to November, Furano offers frequent night-watching tours. Experience the landscape under low light for a truly different perspective. On clear nights, enjoy world-renowned stargazing and spot elusive nocturnal wildlife. Enjoy the silence and grandeur of nature in the dark, free from artificial light pollution.
5. Campana Rokkatei
Located in the natural surroundings on the outskirts of Furano, Campana Rokkatei offers famous Rokkatei sweets and unique original products like Furano Ankoro, grape soft serve, and Furano Mochi.
